How It Works in Brief

Book directly → pay the invoice → claim via myplace portal.

As a self-managed participant, you choose your own providers, pay them directly, and submit tax invoices to the NDIS myplace portal for reimbursement. Funds are typically returned to your account within 1–3 business days. No plan manager or support coordinator is needed.

What is self-management?

Self-management is the most flexible way to manage your NDIS plan. When you self-manage, you:

  • Choose your own service providers — registered or unregistered
  • Negotiate prices directly with providers
  • Pay invoices yourself and claim reimbursement from the NDIS
  • Manage your own budget and keep records of your spending

This means you're not restricted to NDIS-registered providers. You can use any qualified carpet cleaning company as long as the service relates to your disability and is funded in your plan.

Step-by-step: booking NDIS carpet cleaning as a self-managed participant

1

Confirm you have the right funding in your plan

Before booking, log into the NDIS myplace portal and check your current plan. You need funding available under:

  • Core Supports → Assistance with Daily Living

This is the support line that covers domestic assistance — including specialist carpet cleaning, upholstery, rugs and mattresses. If you're unsure where to find this, look for "Core" or "ADL" in your plan budget summary.

2

Choose a carpet cleaning provider

As a self-managed participant, you can choose any provider. You are not restricted to NDIS-registered companies — though using one gives you added confidence in service quality and invoicing compliance.

Right Price Carpet Cleaning is a registered NDIS provider with 17+ years of experience serving Melbourne participants. We offer carpet steam cleaning, upholstery cleaning, rug cleaning and mattress sanitising.

3

Book your appointment

Book online at rightpricecarpetcleaning.com.au/choose-area/ or call (03) 8593 8251. When booking, let the provider know:

  • You are an NDIS self-managed participant
  • The services you need (carpet, upholstery, rug, mattress)
  • Your preferred date and address

A written quote will be provided before the appointment — confirm this aligns with your available NDIS funding.

4

The service is completed

The technician attends and completes the cleaning. After the service is done, you'll receive a tax invoice. Check that the invoice is correct before paying — confirm the service matches what was completed and the amount matches the quote.

5

Pay the provider and collect your invoice

Pay the provider's invoice by your agreed payment method (bank transfer, card, etc.). Keep a copy of the invoice and any payment receipt — you'll need both for your NDIS claim.

Ensure the invoice meets NDIS requirements before paying (see the invoice checklist below).

6

Submit your claim via the NDIS myplace portal

Log into the NDIS myplace portal and navigate to Manage My Funding → Request Payment. Select the correct support category (Core Supports → Assistance with Daily Living) and enter the invoice details:

  • Support item: select "Assistance with Daily Life" or the relevant item code
  • Date of service
  • Amount (the total on the invoice)
  • Provider name

Upload a copy of the invoice as supporting documentation and submit the claim. Reimbursement is typically processed within 1–3 business days and deposited to your nominated bank account.

What must be on your invoice for NDIS claims?

For a self-managed NDIS reimbursement claim, the invoice must contain certain information. Right Price Carpet Cleaning's invoices are formatted to meet these requirements:

NDIS-Compliant Invoice Checklist

  • Provider business name — full legal business name
  • ABN — Australian Business Number Required
  • Date of service — when the cleaning was performed
  • Description of service — e.g. "Carpet steam cleaning — 3 rooms + upholstery cleaning — 1 sofa"
  • Total amount charged (GST-inclusive or with GST stated separately)
  • Participant's name — your full name
  • Address of service — where the cleaning was performed
  • Invoice number — for your record-keeping

Do I need to keep records?

Yes. As a self-managed participant, you are responsible for keeping records of your spending. The NDIS may audit self-managed participants and request evidence that spending aligned with your plan. Keep:

  • All invoices (at least 5 years after the plan period ends)
  • Receipts or bank statements showing payment
  • Any written quotes or service agreements
  • Notes on how the service related to your disability needs

Tip: Many self-managed participants keep a simple folder (digital or physical) for each plan year — one invoice per document, filed by date. The myplace portal also keeps records of your submitted claims, which makes audits straightforward if your provider invoicing is clean and consistent.
